Delta Ministry Freedom City Pamphlet Delta Ministry pamphlet advertising “Freedom City” as a way for disenfranchised plantation workers to build a better life for themselves and their families, 1965. The Delta Ministry, led by Episcopal Bishop Paul Moore was a national response to the racial unrest in Mississippi. Allin, however, believed that a local approach to the problem was a better solution. The two men would be at odds through the tumultuous times of the 1960s.

Allin Controversy Caricature "...we pray he can get it all together without giving it all away." Allin, as depicted in a 1973 post-election caricature in The Episcopalian. Allin had his work cut out for him following in the footsteps of his predecessor, John Hines. The caricature caption reads, "Where in the world is that reconciliation switch?" Allin Presiding Bishop NYC Office Allin's term of office was not without controversy. He inherited the divisive issues of race relations, ordination of women, prayer book reform, and human sexuality.

Allin Presiding Bishop Allin attempted to take the approach of mediator on many issues. In a 1977 address to the Diocese of New Jersey, Allin stated, “I am not Pope; my job is to preside.” It was this perspective on his role as Presiding Bishop in church governance that informed his attempts to facilitate communication and foster reconciliation within the Church.

We Gather Together Ann conceived of and wrote the foreword for a cookbook, We Gather Together: A Cook Book of Menus and Recipes by the Wives of Episcopal Bishops, published in 1976. Proceeds from sales of the book were donated to feeding the hungry through the Presiding Bishop’s Fund for World Relief.
