Marie Moorefield
Marie Moorefield was ordained a priest in The Episcopal Church on July 29, 1974. A member of the “Philadelphia Eleven,” she was one of the first women to be ordained as priests in The Episcopal Church. In 1975, amid the controversy surrounding the ordinations, Moorefield left The Episcopal Church and joined the United Methodist Church. She served as a hospital chaplain until 1985, when The Episcopal Church recognized her as a priest, and then served in the Dioceses of Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Western New York, and North Carolina, where she was Canon to the Ordinary from 2001 to 2006.
